Oblivion Override is a new rogue like side-scroller which provides a unique hack-n-slash experience by offering various many types of weapons like daggers, swords, hammers, axes, and fists. Weapons in Oblivion Override possess unique skills and random attributes to keep the gameplay diverse and engaging. In this post, we take a closer look at some of these weapons. But first a small note on Weapon Recasting and the Energy Mechanism in Oblivion Override.

Weapon Recast System

In Oblivion Override, each weapon has various unique skill effects and a range of random attributes. Some of these attributes can enhance the weapon’s charge effect, while others can increase the damage inflicted on enemies under certain debuffs.Additioanlly, players can unlock the Weapon Recast Room by visiting the non-playable character (NPC) known as ‘Mr. Xie’. This feature allows players to refresh the weapon attributes, enabling them to craft the most suitable weapon for themselves.

Energy Mechanics

In the previous versions of the game, the various weapon skills had a single refresh mechanism — a time-based cooldown which was considered monotonous in gameplay. To address this, the weapon system has been adjusted with a new Energy mechanic. Essentially, skills now require energy to be used instead of waiting for a cooldown. Energy can be gained through attacking enemies or through special weapon attributes like “gain 50 energy points immediately when entering a combat room”.Compared to the passive waiting required during a cooldown period, this energy-consuming mechanic encourages proactive attacks. By continually attacking enemies, players can use skills more frequently. Consequently, the more a player attacks in a fight, the stronger they will become. And now lets look at some of the weapons in the game.

Bayonets

Lets start with the Bayonets. They have a special skill known as the Roundhouse Kick. This powerful forward kick not only breaks the enemy’s guard but also triggers a rupture. This skill can evolve into a bursting combo due to the lateral movement. The Bayonets used to have the “Rupture” attribute in earlier versions of the game, but it has now been integrated into the skill, allowing for the creation of a new attribute named “Bloodthirsty”. This attribute gives the player a 35% chance to restore 1% of their maximum HP when killing an enemy in a state of rupture, making Bayonets even more valuable in combat.

Supre Slugger

Supre Slugger is another weapon that possesses a skill called “Division”. With each strike on an enemy, there’s a 15% chance that the baseball will divide, making the weapon both more powerful and visually appealing.

Jet Fists

Jet Fists utilize a skill called “Jab”. This skill allows for a powerful punch to be delivered 5 seconds after using Flying Fists, making Jet Fists more flexible and visibly stronger.

Grasscutter

The Grasscutter’s performance lies somewhere between fast daggers and powerful hammers and axes. Its four-shot combo provides a wide attacking range in front and is even capable of striking flying enemies. The design of the Grasscutter is plant-inspired, with a leaf-like blade and a four-leaf clover-shaped handle.

Its skills correspond with its plant theme. After performing a smash attack, it can place a random plant cannon that will automatically shoot enemies. This feature can be particularly useful in prolonged boss fights, especially if the cannons are positioned strategically.

Violet Dagger

The Violet Dagger is equipped with a skill called “Ambush”. This ability allows the player to teleport behind enemies quickly and inflict high damage. It enables immediate proximity to enemies, ideal for backstabbing. The skill animation for this makes backstabbing more practical in actual gameplay allowing players to attack right after performing an ambush.

Prop Sword

The Prop Sword has unique features such as “Combo Attack” and “Swift Movement”. Unlike regular swords, it offers increased displacement distance through weapon actions. This helps players evade damage in complex scenarios, like levels filled with traps and ground thorns. The combo attack feature of the Prop Sword provides flexibility during battles as it allows players to interrupt the combo and shift their attack to a different enemy at any time. To ensure that players can track their character amidst chaotic combats, the Prop Sword’s attack visuals also appear enhanced. Moreover, each spectacular combo concludes with a powerful “X Slash”, designed to be an impressive ultimate attack.

Javelin

As a melee weapon, a longer range is always advantageous for the Javelin, but simple thrusts can become repetitive. Therefore, it comes with some special attributes. For example, the Javelin can return to the player in a rotating manner and can deliver a continuous attack when lodged into a wall. This allows players to throw it like a ranged weapon and inflict constant spinning damage from a safe distance. This feature can be particularly useful when up against large and slow enemies.

Plasma Sword

The Plasma Sword is a popular weapon in the game. It possesses a “Plasma Field” attribute, which lets the player create an electric triangle on the final hit of a combo. This can shock enemies within a wide range, though it does come with an 8-second cooldown period.Another feature of the Plasma Sword is the “Remise” attribute. It allows the player to stun enemies with an electric shock. By combining these two attributes, players can effectively control crowds of enemies during intense fights, or it can help them survive particularly precarious moments.

Sawpop

The Sawpop is one of the most interesting weapons in the game. It features a fast rotation attack of its “Sweet Storm” skill. It also has an upgradable ability that gets activated on the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th hit of the combo. This feature infuses the skill with guard-breaking / blast wave / HP lifesteal effects. These enhancements on the Sawpop transform your simple button-mashing into a powerful tornado-smashing onslaught.

Storm Coil

In the demo, the Storm Coil weapon had a skill called Dynamo, which involved striking the enemy with a magnetic electric drill. The user had to time the use of this skill carefully as movement was restricted during its use. With the introduction of the new Energy Mechanics, the Dynamo skill of the Storm Coil weapon has been enhanced for more flexibility and convenience. Now, it continuously consumes energy during use, and players have the option to stop the skill at any time, ensuring both ease of use and safety.Furthermore, the weapon attribute known as “AC/DC” gets activated every second when Dynamo is in use. It releases a small drill that inflicts damage on distant enemies. As an energy-consuming bonus, this attribute serves to increase the frequency of skill use.

Ascendance

The energy-based axe weapon, Ascendance, boasts both impressive appearance and attack effects. Designed for dealing substantial wide-range damage, it proves highly effective when confronted with a significant number of enemies. However, the weapon’s normal attack speed is slow, which is a drawback. To offset this weakness, Ascendance has an energy skill named Lunar Spiral. This feature provides a broad attack range and jumping distance. That said, the weapon’s slow attack can make it difficult to accumulate energy. Therefore, another attribute, Ex Mode, makes it more efficient. By holding the skill for 0.3 seconds, it begins to charge itself. Players can charge this in a safe location and be ready to take the initiative in intense combat situations.

Yuletide

Though it may resemble a hammer modified from a Christmas tree, the Yuletide offers more than just a simple swinging attack. Its unique skill, Sleigh Ride, allows you to ride the Christmas tree and charge headfirst into your enemies with 100 energy points. Players can freely change direction during this invincible period, hitting and penetrating enemies in their path. However, this entertaining weapon isn’t merely a battering ram. Developers have also added festive attributes to it, such as Spark. During the Sleigh Ride, it throws Christmas presents at intervals. The stars, candies, and bells that explode and splash around serve as surprise Christmas gifts for the enemies.

Frying Pan

Not much is known about this hilarious weapon that looks like it will be a lot of fun to use except this tweet from the devs.
